Just what it says. Once installed, your browser will no longer send data back to Google’s tracking servers. Kind of defeats the purpose of Google Analytics, but it’s nice to see Google thinking about privacy.
From Digital Inspiration, a list of twenty great bookmarklets that enhance and/or simplify your web browsing in a single click.
In spite of my love for zen-like simplicity, I can be a bit of a packrat - and often an uber-organized one at that. As a result, my Firefox bookmarks have evolved into an intricate heirarchy of folders, subfolders, and so on, with almost all of them chock-full of useful links. The CheckPlaces add-on quickly identifies defunct and duplicated links in your bookmarks, making it remarkably easy to do a bit of spring cleaning. It’s a new Firefox must-have. (via Lifehacker)
Gmail recently changed its API so this great Greasemonkey script (which I rely on more than I realized) stopped working. The author updated it this week to accommodate Gmail’s recent changes, so once again it’s displaying my message count right in the tab’s favicon. Sounds trivial, I know, but it’s amazing how quickly you get used to it - and miss it when it’s gone!

Since I move around between various computers and laptops with different screen resolutions, I need to manage my firefox screen-space without losing the functionality I’ve become used to. This is a collection of extensions that I’ve found to be invaluable for that.
For anyone that’s interested, I’m maintaining a couple of Firefox add-on packs. My personal must-have collection includes those that I find to be indispensible, and which I’ve mentioned from time to time in other posts. The “I also like…” pack is a collection of add-ons that, while not technically indispensible, are helpful and/or cool enough for me to keep them anyway.
I love Firefox because of the powerful customizability available through its extensions. While this can lead to a bit of a kid-in-the-candy-shop add-on extravaganza, I try to keep it (somewhat) trim and zen-like with only those tools that I find indispensable. It seems that about this time each year, I do a bit of an inventory to spring-clean my online environment. Here’s 2009’s roundup:

My must-haves:
Okay, maybe my eyes are getting old, and admittedly I’m finding it harder to locate the sweetspot in my bifocals, but even without that excuse, a lot of websites I visit just seem cluttered and designed for something other than readability. This bookmarklet pulls the pertinent content (or lets you select specific content) and displays it in a clean, readable overlay using fonts, colors and layouts of your choosing. Sweet. Incredibly easy to set up, it sits quietly in your bookmarks toolbar till you need it. I think I’m hooked. (via MakeUseOf)
